New York metro. Is there anything special about it? (p2)

This is actually one more post about New York. From the previous blog remember? I was going to tell you about the subway. I'm sure you think that it is boring to talk about the fucking subway. It is just an transportation system. Well it is not. It is a romantic story.

Before I went to NYC I have never heard about New York's subway. Never used it, never read something about it, nothing. I just entered inside. At first glance it was dirty, nasty and very very different from the shiny and clean metro stations in Washington DC, Munich in Germany, or even Chicago. Both Chicago's and New York's subways are really old. Manhattan's subway is a city under the city. It is story under the story, and it is so impressive from the architectural point of view. From engineering point of view that is the perfect transportation system.  It is the city's heart! I mean I'm not a person who have traveled a lot and seen all the metro systems in the World, but after I saw the subway I also did some research about it.
If you ever go to New York my recommendation will be to use the subway. At first you are going to be terrified, but for a short period of time the subway will give you pleasant experience. The metro is hiding the most cool people, the real New Yorkers. The metro is telling you the oldest stories of the city, it is one of the oldest subway systems in the world and definitely one of the busiest. You can see express lines, normal lines, you get only one floor under the ground and you are in the subway. The subway basically is holding the city on its shoulders. The subway stations are all over the city, almost every corner hides a subway station. It is too crowded but surprisingly the people are nice to each other, and again, they smell nice. Everything is allowed down there. Your dog, your bike, your crazy hair or that awesome tattoo.  After the experience i have read that:

  • Using a car in Manhattan you are moving at 10 km per hour.
  • Using the subway you are moving at 60 km per hour.
  • 75% of New Yorkers don't use cars in Manhattan. (it is impossible to use a car)

I found the place that I should sleep over. Somehow i found the way to the apartment and this guy opened the door for me. He invited me inside, showed me the room, it was small room with six bunk beds inside. A lot of people, actually 13. That is the only way to stay cheep in the upper Manhattan. (50 bucks a night.)
This is the view from ALL the windows in the apartment. That is the price you pay living in upper Manhattan.

  • Times Square
I'm not going to refrain from talking about the heart of the world, the center of the universe - Times Square. I got the subway and get off to the Times Square and 42th street. And yes, you can feel the heart beat. It is the world's heart. It is like someone just poured out millions of people, each of them with their own story, with their own mission and each of them, I bet, thinks that he/she is special. And they are not wrong.
Deeper you go to Times Square deeper it touches you. I was feeling the chills on every other step it was my very first time in a city like this. It was magical. New York accepted me. They said that Times Square is crowded like this 24 hours a day, and 365 days a year.
You can see why they say that you move 10km per hour in Manhattan.

I've met Casey Neistat

I've met the man. The golden boy of YouTube. New York City in front of his office. I was on my way to the bus with which I should have traveled to Washington DC. The subway left me three blocks from the meeting point. I was an hour early. I said to my self that I will pass by Casey's office, it is on my way to the bus anyway. For the record, I'm huge fun of Casey Neistat and his work. If you have asked me which celebrity i would like to meet the most, I would certainly answer Casey Neistat. I arrived in front of his office, and called a friend of mine who is also fan of Casey. He did not answered my call. I called coworker of mine, he also like Casey very much. I was showing him where I was, and suddenly in my frame Casey showed up. He was leaving a store next to his office. Me: Ej Casey (Ej is Macedonian, i was not able to use my English, because i was too excited).  Casey : Hi man. What's up? Me: Can we take a picture....of...hum... Casey: Sure man.  Me: ...
